I grew up in central Mississippi. Just north of the state capital of Jackson in what was then still the small(ish) town of Madison.
When I was 16 years old I surrendered my life to worship ministry. Eventually, after a few years of college, major changes, and other shifting (and poorly made) life decisions I would end up in the Mississippi Delta where I would spend collectively, in various places, somewhere around 6 years in ministry before relocating to South Mississippi for another almost 7 years. As I sit here typing this I am in a small town on the other side of the US called Galt, CA.
It feels like the other side of the world, and a life time away.
That entire paragraph makes up about 20 years of my life.
Over those 20 years, I have collected thoughts, songs, and other experiences across several devices, journals, and various other mediums, though I haven’t really known what to do with them.
This will be an attempt to find a home for at least some of these things. It will be a journey unlike anything I’ve attempted before.
Anyone who knows me knows I’m introverted, introspective, and usually do better communicating my feelings through music with a guitar in hand. I really have no idea where this is going, but if you’ve read this far all I can say is – welcome to the journey.
That really is the only metaphor that I think is fitting for this endeavor, as cliche as it is. As I’m sitting here trying to string together this introduction that’s the only thing that feels right. After all that is life – grief and gratitude, creativity and criticism, worship and wonder, love and loss – its the journey we are all on together.
So as I wrap up this introduction that is the invitation, to embark together, on this journey through all of these things, one step at a time.
